Calibre Safety acquires remaining share of SRA

Calibre Safety Services Pty Ltd, a majority shareholder of safety training specialist Safety and Rescue Australia Pty Ltd, has today acquired the remaining 25% share in Safety and Rescue Australia Pty Ltd (SRA).

 

The acquisition gives Calibre 100% ownership of SRA and was undertaken to create a fully integrated safety services capability with Calibre Safety Services.

 

“I see this as a very positive development for our clients, the employees of SRA and Calibre”, said Ken Nolan, General Manager Calibre Safety Services.

 

“We expect to realise improvements and synergies across the areas of service delivery, quality assurance, financial management and client management”, he added.

 

Together, both organisations share a wealth of experience in the field of Occupational Health and Safety and specialist training and consulting.

 

Safety and Rescue Australia has been providing specialist skills, emergency and rescue training, and consulting services to both the government and industry for over 20 years.

 

Calibre Safety Services has been delivering OHS consulting and training services to major resource and infrastructure projects for the last seven years and has amongst its team a group of highly experienced safety practitioners.

 

By both companies aligning their services and systems, clients will now have a complete solution for all their OHS and specialist training and consulting requirements.

 

SRA has two specialist training centres in Jandakot (Western Australia) and Thebarton (South Australia), serving the resources, energy and industrial sectors.

Safety & Rescue Australia delivers nationally recognised qualifications in Metalliferous Mining training

New courses to assist Olympic Dam to meet their Fatal Risk Control Protocol (FRCP) requirements have been created at Safety & Rescue Australia’s training centre in Jandakot for delivery by our SA trainers.

 

Mining giants award 'designated provider' status to Safety & Rescue Australia

Safety consulting for BHPB Nickel Mount Keith

Safety and Rescue Australia are providing safety stand-by personnel and safety consultancy during a major shutdown for BHPB Nickel West at their West Australian Mount Keith mine. Safety and Rescue’s personnel will provide safety skills and expertise, with specific focus on prevention of falls from height, implementation of confined space rescue systems, and confined space risk assessments.

 

Training underway for Citic Pacific Mining at Cape Preston

During October, Safety and Rescue Australia commenced training delivery in services such as Working at Heights and Confined Spaces for Citic Pacific Sino Iron Project at its major magnetite project near Cape Preston, 100 kilometres south west of Karratha in Western Australia. 

 

Rescue training helping get people out of jail...

In September, a tourist in a group being guided through the underground tunnels of the old Fremantle Prison in Western Australia experienced severe health discomfort and required rescue. The casualty was evacuated on a stretcher by the Fremantle Prison guides first by a subterranean boat, then by winch to the surface. This was the 20th rescue conducted by the guides since the inception of the tunnel tours. Safety and Rescue provided the rescue training to the guides and continues to provide refresher sessions to ensure ongoing competency.

Demand for SRA consultancy services sharply increases

New contracts are in place or in negotiation with a number of major clients in mining, processing and government. Areas include confined space audits and procedures design, work at height procedures and general training consultancy.

Confined space procedure design and evaluation

Following on from an extensive confined space procedure design and evaluation exercise for BHP Billiton Iron Ore in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, SRA have been asked to tender for similar services at BHP Billiton's Olympic Dam operation in South Australia.

Ken Nolan joins Calibre Safety as new General Manager

1 July 2008

Ken Nolan commenced in the position of General Manager for Calibre Safety Services and SRA (Safety & Rescue Australia) this month.

Ken Nolan has over 20 years experience in mining, smelting and refining with Rio Tinto and BHP as well as 12 years experience in emergency services. Ken leads both the Calibre Safety and SRA teams. Ken has formal qualifications in OHS and Auditing and is a Chartered Professional Member Safety Institute of Australia (CPMSIA).

Ken will take over from Doug Rogers who is standing aside to focus on product development and consulting services.
